Down on a Rainy Day

Riding down the besotted lane,
Down on a rainy day
Drooling like the lazy dog,
Chasing cars all along the way...

Thinking this and thinking that
He tried to take a turn,
Looking all over and around
To unlade the truckload of thoughts.

And then he came upon a store
Where she greeted him with a smile
She said 'you'll get a good bargain here
For all that you are wiling to share'.

He had no amber, nor any green
Few udders of cloggy memories
Bittersweet though they were
Would help them kill some time.

So they both downed some beer
While he dropped off his load
Sometimes she'd cheer,
And sometimes jeer

Her leaking face drowned the streetWhen he was all done;
She said she had no craft or good,
Nothing worth the trade.

She kissed his brimming eye
As he took took her leave,
And bade him goodbye
With ruth forever and more...

So he rode again
Down the besotted lane,
Down on a rainy day
Drooling like the lazy dog,
Who chases cars all along the way...
